How to Use Tallow Skincare
Your welcome guide to getting the best from Love Tallow
If you're new to tallow skincare, you may notice that our balms feel a little different from the creams and lotions you may have used before.
That's because Love Tallow balms are waterless and highly concentrated, so a little goes a long way.
The golden rule: start small
Start with a pea-sized amount or less, warm it between your fingertips and gently press or massage it into your skin.
Allow a few minutes for the balm to settle before deciding whether you need more.
You can always add more, but you may need much less than you're used to.
How to apply your balm
The same simple method works across most of our balms.
1. Start with clean skin
Apply your balm to clean, dry skin wherever possible.
2. Take a small amount
Use clean, dry fingertips or a clean mini spatula to take a small amount from the jar.
3. Warm between your fingertips
Warm the balm until it softens and becomes easy to apply.
4. Press or massage into the skin
Gently press or massage the balm into your skin.
For facial application, you can use your fingertips or a gua sha tool.
5. Allow it to settle
Give the balm a few minutes to settle before applying another product.
6. Add more if needed
If your skin needs more, simply apply a little extra.
How to use each Love Tallow product
Up & Glow — Morning
Up & Glow is designed for your morning facial skincare routine.
After cleansing, if needed, take a small amount and warm it between your fingertips.
Gently press and massage into your face and neck, then allow it to settle before applying makeup.
Up & Glow can also be used for facial massage or with a gua sha tool. Use enough product to allow your tool to glide comfortably without pulling the skin.
If using SPF, apply it as the final skincare step and follow the instructions provided by your sunscreen.
Relax & Restore — Evening
Relax & Restore is designed for your evening facial skincare routine.
After cleansing, take a small amount and warm it between your fingertips.
Massage gently into your face and neck, paying particular attention to areas that feel dry or tight.
You can apply a slightly richer layer in the evening if your skin needs it.
Relax & Restore can also be used for facial massage or with a gua sha tool.
Extra Gentle — Anytime
Extra Gentle is designed for sensitive skin and can be used whenever skin needs additional moisture and comfort.
It is approved for babies from 1 month+.
Take a small amount, warm it between your fingertips and gently apply to the areas that need it.
For particularly dry areas, warming the balm for a little longer will make it softer and easier to apply.
It can be reapplied throughout the day as needed.
If irritation or discomfort occurs, discontinue use.
Skin Tint — Your natural-looking finish
Skin Tint is designed to enhance your natural complexion rather than cover it.
It can be applied to bare skin or once your skincare has settled.
Start with a small amount and use your fingertips to dab and blend into the skin. Build gradually if you would like more colour.
Rose Gold
Works beautifully across larger areas of the face for a warm, luminous finish.
Pink Quartz
Can be applied to the apples of the cheeks for a fresh, naturally flushed look.
New to tallow? Here's what to expect
Tallow can feel richer than conventional moisturisers when you first use it.
That's because our balms are waterless and highly concentrated.
If your skin feels overly greasy after application, try using less next time.
Remember:
Take less → warm it → press into the skin → allow it to settle → add more if needed.
With time, you'll get a feel for exactly how much your skin needs.
Is my balm supposed to feel, look or smell different?
Yes. Because Love Tallow is made with natural ingredients in small batches, you may notice natural variations in texture, colour and aroma.
Why does my balm change texture?
Tallow naturally responds to temperature.
In colder weather
Your balm may become firmer.
Simply take a small amount with clean, dry fingers or a mini spatula and warm it between your fingertips.
In warmer weather
Your balm may become softer and creamier.
It may also partially melt if exposed to high temperatures. If this happens, allow it to return to room temperature and firm up again.
If your product was originally whipped, its original whipped texture may not fully return after melting.
These changes are a natural response to temperature and do not necessarily mean there is a problem with your product.
Why does my balm smell different?
Because Love Tallow is made with natural ingredients in small batches, you may notice a natural aroma when you first open your balm.
The scent can vary slightly from batch to batch and may be more noticeable when the balm is warm or freshly opened.
This is a normal characteristic of natural ingredients and does not necessarily indicate that there is a problem with your product.
Once applied, the aroma generally becomes less noticeable as the balm settles into the skin.
If you notice a strong or unusual smell that seems significantly different from the product when new, please don't hesitate to contact us. We're always happy to help check your batch.
Tip: Keeping your balm in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat will help maintain its natural characteristics.
Why does my product look different from another jar?
Every Love Tallow product is handcrafted in small batches using natural ingredients.
Because of this, slight variations in colour, texture and aroma can occur between batches.
How to care for your tallow balm
A little care will help you get the best from your product.
Keep your balm:

With the lid securely closed when not in use
Always use clean, dry hands or a clean mini spatula when taking product from the jar.
Keep water out of your balm
Our balms are waterless, so avoid introducing water into the jar.
Water can affect the product and shorten its shelf life.
It's also best not to leave your balm somewhere particularly warm, such as in a car or next to a radiator.
How long will my product last?
Our products have been lab tested for stability and have a minimum shelf life of 30 months before opening.
Once opened, please follow the period-after-opening information on your individual product packaging, as this may vary by product.
If you're unsure about the shelf life of a particular product or batch, please contact us.
Trying a product for the first time?
Even when a product is formulated with sensitive skin in mind, everyone's skin is different.
When trying a new product for the first time, you may wish to patch test a small amount on a discreet area of skin first.
If irritation or discomfort occurs, discontinue use.
If you have persistent or significant skin concerns, please speak to an appropriate healthcare professional.
